Zane Powles’ moving efforts to help vulnerable children during the coronavirus lockdowns have been recognised in a book of hope for the future.
Before his passing, Captain Sir Tom Moore, who inspired the nation when raising over £30 million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden, gave his blessing for 100 stories to be collated as a celebration of everyday heroes in the UK.
Zane and a retelling of his daily walks to deliver free school meals to children in Grimsby have been published in ‘One Hundred Reasons to Hope’.
To launch the book, Zane travelled to Captain Sir Tom’s home and was able to walk a lap his garden using the famous walker.
He said: “I’m very honoured and proud to say he chose me to be one of the stories. I was surrounded by such amazing people who took part in awesome acts of kindness during the lockdowns. I honestly felt totally humbled by what everyone had done.”
