Digging Deep and Going Green(er)

Not-for-profit organisation Grimsby Garden Centre is digging deep to ensure that green, sustainable practices run through the heart of its operations.

Earlier this year the Centre’s café, The Potting Shed, was one of the first eateries in North East Lincolnshire to sign up to food waste app’ Too Good to Go’ which allows locald to intercept surplus food for a heavily discounted price.

‘We’re really focused on ensuring that no edible food goes to waste,’ explains NAViGO Head of Commercial Services, Jo Keen. ‘Too Good To Go makes it easily available to local people at a reduced price.

Not only is that better for the environment but it also means more people get to enjoy food that may otherwise have been thrown away.’

In-store eco improvements such as biodegradable carrier bags and the introduction of biodegradable plant pots will soon be joined by exciting future plans including the installation of electric car charging points, a small businesses hub made from repurposed shipping containers and a timber-built kids barn complete with wool insulation, rainwater harvesting and composting loos.
